500g beef or lamb mince
One slice of bread
1 egg
1 teaspoon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper
Method
Put the mince into a large bowl. Tear the bread into a few pieces and put in a small bowl (eg. cereal bowl) and add water just enough to cover, leaving so that the water soaks into the bread. Break the mince up with a fork. Break the egg into it and add the mustard, Worcester sauce, some black pepper (+ salt if you like it and are not too bothered about your blood pressure), and the soaked bread. Mix together vigorously, mashing and breaking up the bread further if necessary. Form into burgers and fry each side in oil for several minutes until brown.
These burgers are nice served with potatoes (boiled or mashed, and if cold, smothered in mayonnaise), a handful of mushrooms sliced and lightly fried, and a tomato or green salad.
