Port Askaig

Port Askaig seems an uncomfortable anchorage to me, too much tide and not enough space, so I have never stopped here. However, if you do, the hotel is probably OK, although it seemed a bit run down on an autumnal land visit in 2008 - but to be fair it was in the middle of refurbishment so lets hope they don’t wreck the cosy bar (ph 01496 840245). There is also a small shop. But in practice it is surely better to let the tide carry on sweeping you up – or down – the Sound of Islay to wherever it is you are heading for.
