Weather forecasts

You could look at the sky, then at the barometer, and then back to the sky before passing judgement. Or you could do what the rest of us do, either listen to or more often bring up the websites of the relevant forecasts. I use the Met Office for Oban (the land forecast) and the relevant sea areas:

Met Office inshore waters forecast from the Mull of Kintyre to Ardnamurchan Point

Met office inshore waters forecast from Ardnamurchan Point to Cape Wrath excluding the Minch

Met Office inshore waters forecast for the Minch

Contrary to some very strongly held beliefs to the contrary I find these forecasts, and the Met Office website generally, very good.

There is also a useful Wind map of the UK giving forecasts up to 5 days ahead.
